The Uganda Petroleum Institute Kigumba (UPIK) secured new equipment worth euro 2.6m (sh11b) as part of its revamp through the ARSDP Project under the Ministry of Education and Sports. The procurement of the new equipment was part of the move by the Government to transform UPIK into a centre of excellence for oil and gas training. These included high-tech upstream oil and gas training equipment, downstream petroleum equipment, instrumentation, welding, forging and foundry equipment. The upstream equipment was be used to train technicians on oil exploration, development and production, whereas the downstream equipment will be utilised to offer hands-on experience in petroleum distribution, marketing and sales.
LabX Scientific Limited was awarded a contract value of USD 1,180,866.4 for supply, delivery, installation and training of users for equipment under this very project. This equipment comprised of instrumentation, electrical and safety accessories which was majorly going to be used to train high-tech upstream oil and gas operations. LabX with the aid of some of its technical education instrument manufacturing partners i.e GUNT GMBH, Festo Didactics, Amatrol, and LD Didactics was able to successfully deliver, install and train users at the Uganda Petroleum Institute Kigumba.
